A suspect is behind bars for the murder of a man at a Mesa home earlier this month.

"Section 300 (d) may be more fitting because it does not require intent to harm a specific person, but rather that the accused knew the act of driving while intoxicated was imminently dangerous — that it could have resulted in death. However, driving against traffic while heavily intoxicated does not automatically meet the threshold."

A man is facing over a dozen charges, including attempted murder, arson and kidnapping, after allegedly breaking into a home, brutally attacking the occupant.

Police believe a man who died by suicide is the suspect. The incident marks the city's fourth and fifth homicides of 2026; 2025 saw two homicides, per police.

Janice Randle was found dead in her bed in 1992, but police couldn't make an arrest in the case until new information emerged.
