This afternoon the boys and I were able to do a tour of the HMAS Whyalla - not sure how much the boys got from it but I loved the tour - the guide Rose was phenomenal, really took you back to how it must have been for those serving back in WW2 and the conditions they lived, fought and died under. If I remember it right, the ship is a corvette class and it’s primary role was a minesweeper | Captain Australia's BIG LAP

Whyalla turned out in droves on Sunday May 16 to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the HMAS Whyalla’s launch. Whyalla City Council organised a free open day at the Whyalla Maritime Museum, packed full of family activities and plenty of the history of the city’s most famous landmark. There was also a sunset ceremony performed on the Friday with simulated firing of the main gun. Watch the video below for some of the scenes of the day.
